Carolyn Ferns talks about her position as the Policy and Government Relations Coordinator at the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care and a member of the board of directors of Child Care Now and the Childcare Resource and Research Unit. Ferns discusses her path to becoming an advocate for early childhood education. After graduating from the ECE program at Ryerson, she did a placement at the ChildCare Research and Resource Unit (CRRU) that opened for her the field of policy research and development. Ferns went on to work for the CRRU for ten years before moving to the Ontario Coalition. She expands on the liberatory view of education involved in the realm of early childhood education and how it can be improved through politics and public policy. Carolyn discusses the advocacy work of her organization around issues of affordable child care, appropriate compensation for child care workers and traning for child care workers.
