UTSC Library Storytelling Portal

Are you interested in creating a storytelling project?

Whether your vision is a separate site, a collection in the stories repository, or a research project. The Quercus (Canvas)-based  UTSC Library Storytelling Portal is designed to streamline the submission process for multimedia as well as provide reusable content for teaching core storytelling competencies.

Through this portal, students can submit media-rich assignments via an ungraded quiz with custom upload fields. This assignment does not replace the ethics processes that must be completed when developing or administering a course, but is designed to ensure that students are providing adequate licensing, informed consent, and other information required for longer-term stewardship of their content.

Note: this Quercus course is only accessible to members of the UTSC community because of its openness to submissions.

Storytelling Pedagogy

Students can self register for this course to complete modules on key dimensions of digital storytelling, including accessibility, intellectual property, research skills, and creating stories with audio and video. The content can also be repurposed in other Quercus courses, as the course content is offered under a CC Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike license. (The pedagogical content available in this site is also available openly to the public through other storytelling resources.)

Note: The library also supports digital storytelling endeavours on campus through in-class workshops, collaboration on assignment design, and the training and management of research assistants. You can also record podcasts in person at the UTSC Library in AC286 using a library-provided audio mixer, microphones, and headphones, or borrow additional equipment from our tech lending program.

If you are interested in learning more, or putting your content into "Stories from Scarborough," please reach out to the UTSC Library by contacting your departmental liaison librarian, or emailing dsu.utsc@utoronto.ca.
