Barbara Benoit recounts her experience as a sewing apprentice in Germany, immigrating to Canada, and running a dressmaking business with her mother. She describes how a dressmaker creates clothing that compliment a person's body, how her work resulted in lasting friendships with clients, and how she supported her husband through school with her business. Barbara speaks about the difficulties of balancing work with parenthood, and how she used her skills at home even after she closed her business. She explains that as the business grew, she took on a designer role and had employees to create the dresses. Barbara explains that sewing and dressmaking are very personal for her. They are how she expresses love to people and are a rewarding skill.
