Having joined as a faculty member in 2008, English professor Maria Assif reflects on the journey that led her to UTSC, and her time here. As a person who has lived in different locations throughout her life, Maria shares her appreciation for Scarborough in terms of its landscape and resilience as well as her attraction to the diversity, inclusivity, and equity promoted by UTSC. She touches upon her role in teaching and administration by exploring her aspirations for the courses she coordinates, such as ENGA02. Maria also comments on the changes she has witnessed at UTSC from 2008 to 2022, inlcuding Scarborough’s role in the tri-campus structure, the changing racial, ethnic and gender representation in the faculty and the reorganization that moved the English program out of the large multi-disciplinary Department of Humanities into a Department on its own.
